As Phoenix Jewish community grows, so does the need for having kosher food in hospitals and nursing homes. We focus not only on the patients themselves, but on their relatives and friends who come to be by their bedside. Illness is hard on everyone it touches. Our goal is to ease the pressure of caring for the sick people by providing kosher, hot, delicious food to their hospital rooms or homes. Ezras Cholim of Phoenix works with medical practitioners, medical facilities and community institutions to identify those who are facing challenges and are in need of kosher meals. It is unique in the community, because it serves anyone and everyone in need of help, regardless of which synagogue they attend, their observance level is, or whether they are local or visiting.
For Ezras Cholim, each small interaction measures our success: we see lonely hospital patients smile for new visitors, and we see community members light up at the kindness of our volunteers. For example, when we received a testimonial letter of gratitude from a Brooklyn-based father who lived in Phoenix for a month while his daughter underwent critical surgery and treatment, we know that we are doing our job well. With G-d's help, each small success is fuel for the next mitzvos waiting to be fulfilled.
